Amazing little village with excellent pub (Assheton Arms). The entire village has been owned by one family since 1558 so every property is rented. No satellite dishes are permitted, overhead cables or road signs. There isn’t even a village sign. Was the village where they filmed Whistle Down the Wind.

Downham is a delightful village for those seeking a taste of rural England and the charm of a traditional Lancashire village. Its stunning scenery, historic church, and serene ambiance make it a popular spot for tourists exploring the Ribble Valley.

Well worth a visit. Owned by the same family since 1552. All properties are rented. The family also retains control of village development - so you will never see at village sign, a road sign, an overhead cable or a satellite dish in Downham. Was the location for the filming of the 1961 film 'Whistle Down the Wind'. Also has a very good pub, the Assheton Arms. Downham looks directly out over Pendle Hill, some great lighting at sunset.
