With a little run-up (can you say that with fish?) the fish overcome the individual steps and can thus reach the upper reaches of the river and thus the spawning grounds. Very exciting!

Fish ladders are installed so that fish and small creatures can continue their migration along the rivers. These are hydraulic engineering devices that allow the fish to bypass the power plant and ensure the continuity of the water body. Fish passes are newly created habitats for fish and many other aquatic animals. A distinction is made between technical (e.g. vertical slot) and near-natural fish pass (e.g. bypass channels typical of water bodies) and mixed types (e.g. pond pass).
