In the tower there is a book in which you can read up on recent observations and enter your own sightings. Around the Streng there is a 9 km long circular path along extensive reed areas, wet meadows and fields.

Because of the large number of water birds and the favorable conditions, this is an excellent observation place. One of the largest colonies of the black-necked grebe in Germany is located here. Important resting place for numerous species of ducks, seagulls, terns and red-necked grebes. In spring and autumn, thousands of bean geese and pale geese and up to 4,000 cranes rest here. Kingfisher, sea eagle and osprey can be seen regularly.
