ACTIVE PARK
A park in which all generations can find themselves and which offers space for a wide variety of activities - that is the new Balingen Active Park at the Balingen Garden Show 2023.

Due to the flood protection concept, retention areas must be created in the area of the Active Park on which the Eyach can spread in the event of a flood. At the moment, in the event of a once-in-a-century flood, the entire Bizerba Arena would be flooded.

The flattening of the site also opens up wonderful design options for the Balingen Garden Show 2023: The water will be easier to experience and when the water level is low, the Eyach can be crossed on stepping stones in the future.

A multi-stage participation workshop was held to plan the multi-generational park. The result: The participants wanted not only permanently assigned areas, but also multifunctional areas for running around, free ball games, relaxation and staying. All of this is reflected in the large retention and usable area: As Eyachstrand, it accompanies the water and offers space for active and passive relaxation.

In addition to this open space, the active park consists of numerous sporting activities such as a beach volleyball and a streetball field. But also senior sports equipment and a movement sculpture with various focuses. There is also a huge skate park that Balingen skaters, scooters, BMX and roller skaters of all ages have developed together with the planning office "Populär". In the shade of old linden trees, you will find various places to stay as well as two boules fields.

In the middle of the site there is also a newly built building made of wood: the new Balingen youth center. With its spacious wooden terrace and its location directly next to the skate park, it fits in perfectly with the active park in terms of theme and design.

The active park with its four hectares of area will in future be the largest park in downtown Balingen. In order to create space for this facility, where the planners could develop their ideas, uses had to be relocated first. The tennis courts and the clubhouse that were located at this location were dismantled for the active park.
