Here you have a wonderful view over the Ihlseeniederung. This landscape was created from a former lake that had silted up and become a fen. In order to be able to use these areas for agriculture, the water was heavily drained here in the past. Today, nature conservation is taking effect here and the rewetting of the lowlands has been successful. The Ihlseestrom and the Dingwatter Au flow through the area towards the Treene.

The Ihlstromtal was once formed by the mighty glacial outflow of the Ihlstrom. When this silted up, the Ihlsee was here and today there is only a small stream and a low moor. In order to maintain this character, the Ihlstromtal is grazed by its own sheep farm.
The viewing platform allows a beautiful view over this former lake. The dimensions are easier to guess from above.
