In the 11th century there was a chapel dedicated to Saint Ulrik at this location. The church as it stands today was built in different periods. What is particularly striking are the many tombstones, both inside the floor and outside in the walls. The church had a lot of organs: first there was a pneumatic organ, in the second half of the 1960s it was replaced by an electronic organ, which in turn was replaced in 1993 by a mechanical pipe organ.

The cemetery around the Sint-Ulrikskerk is also worth a visit: there you will find several graves of gypsies. At the beginning of the 20th century, a few gypsies parked their caravans at a farmyard along Brussels Street. In the 1930s, their gypsy queen Anne-Marie Rosenberg died. She was the first gypsy to find her resting place at the Sint-Ulrikskerk. Because gypsies of the same clan are often buried in the same place, it is not surprising that we find other gypsy graves there.
