Robert Surcouf (1773 – 1827): The King of the Corsairs harassed the British merchant and military navy not only in the seas of Europe but also in the seas of India. Robert Surcouf led the racing war against English trade. His most famous exploit was the capture of the Kent, a powerful ship of the English East India Company. The capture of this 1,200-ton ship earned him the title “King of the Corsairs.” Surcouf then became one of the richest and most powerful shipowners in Saint-Malo. He will be buried in the Rocabey cemetery.
The bronze statue of Robert Surcouf is located in the Jardin du Cavalier, opposite Petit-Bé and Grand-Bé. Surcouf, in his corsair garb, gives the marching orders by turning his head to face his troops.

The statue of the privateer Robert Surcouf is located in Saint-Malo, above the Plage de Bon-Secours, at one of the most beautiful vantage points of the city walls. Erected in 1903, it commemorates Robert Surcouf (1773–1827), the city's most famous son and one of the most famous French privateers.
