The first view of the Alpenrosenhof is disappointing, as it is located directly on the Penser Joch with a lot of motorbike / car traffic and looks touristy. Once there, however, it impresses immensely with its inner values: a terrace to enjoy the sun, a sparkling clean dining room with really excellent food and nice, quiet rooms. Be sure to reserve in advance as this is the accommodation with the fewest (19) places on the Horseshoe Tour. On each floor there is a washroom with 4 washbasins and a toilet with shower. There is a shower token for 5 minutes of warm showering per overnight stay. There is electricity in the rooms. What a nice little luxury.
If you want to take the long route to the Hirzer Hütte the next day, you can and should start as early as 6 a.m., as the tour lasts more than 10 hours without breaks and you cannot order dinner in the Hirzer Hütte after 6.30 p.m. If you start early (no breakfast before 7.30 a.m.) you can order a packed lunch from Dagmar, the hut landlady, instead of breakfast and take it with you. This was by far my best snack pack ever! I will have fond memories of the Alpenrosenhof.
From the beginning of July, a tourist bus runs 3 times a week from the Penser Joch to Sarnthein for those who only want to do half the tour. Bus days summer 2023 Tues, Thurs, Sat. More details (e.g. time etc.) on request from the very well connected and wonderfully helpful hut landlady Dagmar.
