The mountain is located about 70 km southeast of Siena near the municipality of Cetona in the province of Siena, halfway between Florence and Rome, and at 1148 m is the highest point in the Chiana Valley. It is part of the Apennines and is surrounded by the Chiana Valley and the Val d'Orcia. Other neighboring communities in addition to Cetona are San Casciano dei Bagni, Radicofani and Sarteano. The river Orcia arises on the southern side slope, which later flows into the Ombrone.
