The early Rococo building, which was built in 1731/32 according to plans by Franz Moritz von Loew, has housed the provincial library on the upper floor since 1803 with a magnificent baroque cabinet that comes from the former Imperial Monastery of Kaisheim.

In the course of secularization, numerous provincial libraries were set up in Bavaria, which were supposed to take up the books of the dissolved monasteries and make them accessible to the public. Elector Max IV Joseph founded the Neuburg Provincial Library as the central library for schools and administration in the region and set it up in the building of the former Catholic Congregation.

Tip: Special tours of the provincial library take place every Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. from May to October.

During the guided tour through the historic library hall, you will get to know the jewelry box of the former royal residence. The library stalls were brought here from the monastery Kaisheim during the secularization.
