In 1971 a brush fire destroyed this area, so Amir Dialameh worked on his won to maintain the garden. He once cleared 200 burnt tree stumps shovel and pick all alone. Amir's idea was to create an oasis for hikers. Other volunteers joined the project and restored the flora and fauna which thrives today.

Amir’s Garden is a pretty unique and awesome picnic area on the east side of Griffith Park. It is the most pleasant place for a rest or picnic, with a selection of picnic tables surrounded by a volunteer-supported sanctuary of flowering greenery. This totally regenerated five acre garden is now a hiker's oasis but once upon a time it was not so. The garden hides the remarkable story of how local Iranian immigrant, Amir Dialameh, whilst all on his own, turned a burnt brushfire landscape into a hilltop paradise over a twelve year period way back in 1970.
