On the most beautiful hill of the eastern hill of Barga, this former convent, which later became a conservatory, was founded in 1456 by Michele Turignoli, a friar of the Third Order of Saint Francis, to house some young women who had withdrawn into religious life.

In 1788 the convent was enlarged and turned into an institute for the education of young girls. Two terracotta works can be admired in the church: an altarpiece in high relief depicting the Madonna della Cintola by Benedetto Buglioni (ca. 1510) and the Madonna and Child by Giovanni Della Robbia (1500-1510); there is also a large wooden crucifix from the 13th century and a painting on wood depicting the Enthroned Madonna and Child between Saints Paul and Augustine from the 16th century.
