On the Greifswalder Oie there are ideal conditions for breeding new bee colonies. On the one hand the bees have an optimal habitat and on the other hand there are no other colonies nearby. For this purpose, 250 queen bees were brought to the island. The drones are in close proximity. This allows the eggs to be fertilized. I'm not a beekeeper, I just wrote down what was said during the tour - certainly in a very simplified form
