This is the Illertor at the St. Mang Bridge, not the former hospital church and Holy Spirit Hospital!

The eastern city gate, also known as Metzgertor, was located directly on the Iller Bridge, which connected the city with the Illervorstadt. On July 15, 1543, Emperor Charles V walked through the gate, which was later commemorated by frescoes on the outer walls. In order to widen access from the bridge into the city, the city bought the gate for 18,044 marks only to demolish it in 1876. Through a citizens' initiative, the gate was rebuilt in 1990, slightly removed from its old location. It is now used as office space. The passage was given the name Metzgertor because of its proximity to the city butcher.

Another striking point is the Illertor, which was also called Metzgertor. The building at the entrance to Burgstraße stands until 1876 and is sacrificed to the zeitgeist. An association takes up the idea again and inaugurates in 1990 a new Illertor.
