The current late Gothic church dates from the 16th - 17th century. The choir was probably started around 1500 and the transept can also be situated in the 16th century. According to A. Bettesone, the church got its current appearance for the most part during the time of pastor Ludovicus Moreau (1619-1649); at that time the nave was not only extended but also enlarged with side aisles and the tower, which was probably still freestanding at the time, was enclosed.

Meise is one of the most important and oldest parishes in Northwest Brabant, dating back to the 8th century. It originated as a vicus church, meaning the village grew up around it and was founded by the villagers.
St. Martin's Church is built of sandstone in the late Gothic style. The choir dates back to the early 16th century. Below it is a crypt. The church tower houses a carillon.
