The theater was inaugurated on June 11, 2016. The architectural project was developed by an international team including Peter Cook, Salvador Pérez Arroyo, Bargone Associati and Bianchini & Lusiardi Associati and then completed in the executive phase by the architects Giancarlo Marzorati and Fabrizio Bianchetti.
Overlooking Lake Maggiore near the mouth of the San Bernardino Stream, the theater contains a 500-seat main hall (expandable to 560) and a 120-seat second hall, which can be combined into one multi-purpose hall for 950 spectators; the complex is also equipped with an outdoor terraced arena with 2,000 seats.
