You must have seen these endless expanses of the beach on Rømø. The dunes are not as high and spectacular as on the higher beaches of the Danish North Sea coast, but the beach is unimaginably wide. Sand, as far as the eye can see. Kilometers wide.
Geologically speaking, the whole island of Rømø is a sand alluvium, so it is so shallow. Even larger boulders will be looked for in vain on the island, unless they have been taken there. 60% of the island is overgrown, 40% are sandy. Every year the island continues to grow through the sand, which the winter storms from the island of Sylt carry off and bring here.

During high tide it got through to the river at the top of the dunes. But you can't get any further on foot unless you want your feet to be wet
