Nine bright red steles have recently been attracting the attention of passers-by on Silvius Magnago Square in Bolzano. The course explains clearly and concisely how South Tyrol's autonomy came about, what it essentially consists of and what foundations it is based on. It reports on goals achieved, powers granted, but also on the limits of autonomy, provides insight into the life of Silvius Magnago and provides information on the key autonomy provisions such as proportional representation, autonomous school system and financial regulations. The nine stations in the form of steles, designed in four languages, invite visitors to engage with community and identity, present and future.

The square was redesigned in 2018. It features the Laurin fountain in front of the entrance to the Palais Widmann. It is the seat of the South Tyrolean provincial government and includes 119 offices.

The state parliament building next to the palace was completed in 1953.
