In the West Flemish polder region, about 20 polder farms used to have their own small windmill in their yard. Usually these were post mills from the end of the 19th or the beginning of the 20th century. Most of those windmills disappeared before the First World War and only one of them has really made it to our days: the windmill Decroos from Eggewaartskapelle.
This cute little grain mill runs during the summer months.

The Molentje Decroos is a small windmill, located in the village of Eggewaardenkapelle at Palinghoekstraat 8, which belongs to the West Flemish municipality of Veurne. It is a windmill of the open post mill type, and it functioned as a corn mill. Oats and barley were also ground to be used as animal feed. The mill, built in 1905, has a height of only 5 meters. It is therefore a so-called farm mill, in which grinding was done for private use. Such mills were more common in the West Flemish coastal region in the 19th and early 20th centuries. In 1986 the mill and its surroundings were protected. In 1997 the mill suffered storm damage, after which it was rebuilt a little further.
