There were several quarries in the Buhl area, whose pink sandstone was used in the construction of numerous buildings in the area, e.g. B. for the abbey church of Murbach and other churches. At the time of the municipal registers (from the end of the 18th century), seven more quarries were mentioned.
On the Schimberg side, access and transport of the material was very difficult, so that at the beginning of the 20th century a funicular was even used to transport the stones.
