"Ferryman get it". For more than 500 years (first mention in 1471), there is a ferry at the Missunder Enge. One suspects, however, that many people were transferred by boat from one side to the other much earlier. Already in 1115, Missunde is called "Versundt" in historical sources. During the Schleswig-Holstein survey and the German-Danish war, the narrowest part of the Schlei was a strategically important place and often fought over. A documentation of these events can be found in the Village Museum Brodersby, Missunder Fährstraße 4.

Today, in peaceful times, we can use the ferry as a shortcut to get to the Schwansener side. On the ferry fit max. 8 cars, with trailer even less. After the start, the Missunde II jerks and twitches once on its steel hawsers (it is a cable ferry) and chugs comfortably to the other shore. There are nostalgic feelings. On the way back the same procedere. With a fare of just € 0.60 / adult on foot a cheap pleasure.

On the Angelner side there is a cozy snack for fish sandwiches and simple small dishes. My fish sandwich was delicious, rolls fresh from the oven, warm and crispy, fish fresh and tender (sherry-sild). Totally nice, friendly elderly landlords and a nice environment with tables and benches inside and outside, as well as a beautifully landscaped outdoor area (with flowers and children's playground) What more could you ask for. Open: Tuesday-Sunday approx. 12.00-approx.19.30, closed on Mondays.

If that's not enough, head to the ferry house at Missunde. Since 1805 there is an inn at this place. Seasonally different opening times. On offer also accommodation and rooms for celebrations. For more than 50 years, the Missunde Loop has connected the two loop sides of Schwansen (Missunde) and Fishing (Brodersby). After 43 years of operation, the original Missunde pier was replaced on December 1, 2003 by today's Missunde II pier. It is very popular with holidaymakers and locals on four and two wheels for a direct crossing of the Schlei. A maximum of 45 people can be accommodated per Schlei crossing on the ferry, which glides across the Schlei on a wire rope. It runs all year round on weekdays from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. and on weekends between 8 a.m. and 10 p.m. Only on Christmas Eve is the ferry service restricted until 6 p.m., on New Year's Day it starts at 10 a.m.

It is a real experience to use the ferry, you almost get a little nostalgic when you stand on the bank and it slowly approaches. And: If the ferry is on the other side and doesn't glide over the Schlei on its own - no problem - a short ring is enough.

The ferry has also become well known in recent years through various small events, such as ferry readings or concerts on mild summer evenings.
