In November 1893, the German Emperor Wilhelm II visited the Württemberg King Wilhelm II and also took part in the Württemberg court hunt, which was held every November in Schönbuch. The imperial linden tree was also planted on this occasion.
There are conflicting accounts of how this hunt went, ranging from the fantastic to the disastrous. But there is a photo of a hunting party of more than twenty people in front of the Royal Hunting Lodge, including the emperor and king, with two dead deer in the foreground. The hunt was probably rather bad. In contrast to the hunt that took place the day before in the Entringen district, which is said to have been very successful.
The memorial stone was donated and erected in 1907 by forester Volz, the then head of the Herrenberg Forestry Office.
