Small thermal baths
The protective and exhibition building "Small Thermen" presents the original remains of the ancient baths of the governor of Cambodunum. Original finds from the excavations give an insight into the ancient "wellness culture" of the former Roman city.
Wellness in antiquity
In Cambodunum, the governor of the Roman province of Raetia moved into a representative building next to the forum. Adjacent to this palace, the small thermal baths were built around 50 AD. They served as a private bathing facility for him, his staff, and his guests.

The governor of Raetia had this thermal bath complex, which is not as small as its name suggests, built next to his palace around 50 AD. Unlike the public "Great Thermal Baths", it was intended exclusively for the governor and his guests.

When the governor's official residence was moved to Augusta Vindelicorum (Ausgburg) around the end of the 1st century AD, both the governor's palace and the associated thermal baths were rebuilt and served public purposes.

The excavations of the Small Thermal Baths that are visible today are covered with a protective structure and give a good impression of how a thermal bath complex works. Display boards also explain the Roman bathing culture.

The entrance fee to the temple district also includes admission to the Small Thermal Baths. During the season, a (free) guided tour and themed tours take place every Sunday.
