      The entire forest of the Langenberg is located on shell limestone soil. On top of this lies a layer of loess just a few centimeters thick, in which the plants mainly develop their roots. Some trees pierce the limestone soil with their roots and thus reach the upper red sandstone, the so-called Röt. The Röt is a red, clayey soil on which agriculture is practiced here in the region. Limestone blocks have broken off the shell limestone layer here and slipped down on the clayey red layer. The fracture points are now clearly visible along the way as prominent craters.
