The 'Umayyad Palace' is an ancient palace ruin on the 'Citadel Hill' in Amman. The palace was built in the first half of the 8th century. AD built by the Umayyads and is considered one of the most important monuments from this period. The palace is now largely destroyed.
The striking building ‘Umayyad Monumental Gateway’ was the formal entrance to the Umayyad Palace. In 1998, the 'Gateway' was covered with a modern wooden dome to enable the structure to be used for cultural events.
