Otto Ludwig was born on February 12, 1813 in Eisfeld, the son of the city syndic Ernst Friedrich Ludwig (1777 - 1825) and his wife Sophie Christiane, née Otto (1790 - 1831).

In his honor, the late-classical garden house, which is still preserved today and was built in 1814
was built, a memorial was set up for this great poet, musician, literary theorist, playwright and Shakespearean scholar.

For concerts and readings, the association "Friends of the Church and Castle of Eisfeld" e.V. uses the memorial, e.g. "Little House Music with Otto Ludwig".
