The Sonnentor Dobel is one of twelve portals in the course of the Westweg, the most famous long-distance hiking trail of the Black Forest Association.

The portals along the Westweg were built in 2008 as part of the Westweg quality offensive (with the exception of the Freiersberger Tor portal, which was only added in 2012). The west way leads through the portals. The exception is the Heilklimapforte portal near Freudenstadt-Kniebis, which is a little off the Westweg.

The two adjoining stages of the Westweg are described in words and pictures on the walls on both sides of the passage through the respective portal. At the Sonnentor Dobel, these are the stages from Dobel to Forbach and from Dobel to Pforzheim
