The statue here definitely has something to do with the song (see link below). The statue was designed by entertainer Tommy Steele. He had a show in Liverpool in 1981 and had made an offer to the city of Liverpool to create a statue to honor the Beatles.
The statue was unveiled on December 3, 1982.
