Only a few people know the legend of the war treasure in Lake Wilhelmsruhe. The National Socialists had already planned to expand the old seaside resort in Wilhelmsruh at the end of the 1940s. While the mud from Lake Wilhelmsruhe was being distributed in the recently abandoned Heide Theater, the helpers found tons of jewelry and valuables. The work was interrupted and was only allowed to resume under the supervision of the People's Police. It quickly became clear that the finds belonged to citizens of Wilhelmsruhe.
