This panel explains the formation of the Straufhain in a clear way. The geological outcrop is right next to it and is unfortunately somewhat overgrown. Otherwise it is really very interesting. There are several other basalt cones of this type in the area, including the Heldburg Fortress and the Gleichberge, which are a testament to past volcanic activity.

The entire mountain Straufhain, imposing out of the landscape, is an extinct volcano. Despite almost complete forest cover can be found on its flank Schlotbrekzien. Schlotbrekzie scientifically: Material from the crater walls or from the eruption cloud caused by the reoccurrence of volcanic material in the vent of a crater.
