Situated on a ridge between the Samoggia and Lavino valleys, it is of recent construction, as the pre-existing one was almost completely razed to the ground on May 29, 1929, due to a strong earthquake with its epicenter in Montemaggiore.

The pre-existing church was almost completely razed to the ground on 29 May 1929 due to a strong earthquake with its epicenter in Montemaggiore. The following year a new church was built to a design by Ugo Ughi, partly using recycled material from the previous building.
