Here you will find three Gallo-Roman burial mounds or tumuli (of the fifteen that still exist in Limburg). A country road runs through the well-kept area, which is further next to a fruit orchard. The various objects depicted on the information board have been found in the middle tumulus, which you can actually see in the Royal Museum of Art and History in Brussels. You can discover the 'Drie Tommen' via the walk 'Hidden Beautiful Gallo-Roman tumuli, starting place Vorsen church' at wandeleninlimburg.be/nl/routes/3378301
In spring and summer it is also fascinating because of the less frequent flowers and plants that you find on the hills.

The burial mounds from Roman times are very special in Haspengouw.
You will only find them in a few regions of Europe. Haspengouw was in the heart of the Civitas Turngrorum, a district of the Roman Empire.
In this region, about a hundred families controlled the government and held power. They chose to be buried near their villa, under a large burial mound. Soon, less important villa owners began to follow the example of the wealthy. The first tumuli are from the 1970s to 100s. The last ones were constructed before 250. We often find many objects in tumulus graves. By burying many or valuable objects, you showed that the deceased knew Roman culture and had lived like a Roman. In 1862, archaeological investigations were carried out in the three Tombs. Human ashes and many objects were found that were given to the deceased. A lot of information has been lost because archeology was still in its infancy at the time.
