There is one entrance for both trails on top of the dike opposite the visitor center. For the Ruige Boots path you go to the left, for the Plankierpad you go to the right.

You can discover the Saeftinghe nature reserve from the sea dike (14 kilometers long). If you really want to go in, an excursion is recommended. But if you want, you can also explore a small part alone (without a guide) via one of the two paths (or both, they are complementary). The Plankierpad is with ramps, the Rough Boots Route that goes to wider channels is not. With the second you actually need good boots. Expect to get dirty and, although they are accessible at high tide (not at spring tide) it's still best to watch at low tide. Although the easier Plankierpad is slightly shorter and has ramps, you also need good footwear because you will be walking in the mud anyway. Those who want to observe birds with binoculars can spend hours with a walk on the dike (grass) and the Plankierpad, the Ruige Boots Route is more for that extra experience.
