The Bottari Refuge is located at 1,573 meters above sea level on ancient pastures that divide the Valès Valley from the Focobon Valley, near the trails of the Alta Via 2 and part of the Alta Via dei Pastori. Founded and managed by the Oderzo (TV) section of the Italian Alpine Club (CAI) since the 1970s, it is open from mid-June to mid-September, offering food and accommodations. It has four rooms, sleeping a total of 12. From here, you can enjoy a beautiful view of the Dolomite peaks of Focobon, Civetta, and Pelmo, as well as those overlooking the Ampezzo valley.

Its history begins with the identification and renovation of the ancient Casera Costazza, a mountain pasture that had existed in these areas since time immemorial. In the late 1960s, a team of members of the Oderzo CAI was sent to the Valès area in search of a refuge they could manage. One of the members, in possession of old military maps, highlighted the existence of a mountain hut. After numerous unsuccessful searches, luck would have it that a chimney was located among the brambles and nettles that covered the completely abandoned structure. Thanks to the work of volunteers and the great commitment of the 7th Alpine Regiment, the Oderzo CAI managed, in three years, to completely restore the hut and transform it into a mountain refuge. It was dedicated to Lorenzo Bottari, a young and very active member who tragically died in 1968 during an ascent of the Tre Cime di Lavaredo.

During the fall of 2010, a major renovation and modernization project was carried out, primarily involving the dismantling of the old kitchen, thus also increasing the space and number of seats.
