With 60l / sec the second strongest source in Lower Saxony. Here you can really watch how the water comes from the ground. In addition, a very nice play of colors.

"At a well-accessible spring pot, you can see wonderfully how the water from below pushes out of the sandy ground, whirling up real sandy fountains and deposits reddish iron oxides and turquoise-colored manganese oxides.

The spring water has a constant temperature of about 9 degrees Celsius and never freezes even in winter. This is especially important for the local wildlife, which also provides reliable access to water in winter.

The source of sulfur has been protected since 1936. "

A natural wonder of the Lüneburg Heath Nature Park is the source of drought.
With 60 liters per second, the source is the second source of water in Lower Saxony after the Rhumequelle in the Harz. On a well-accessible spring pot, you can see wonderfully how the water from below pushes out of the sandy ground, whirling up real sandy fountains and depositing reddish iron oxides and turquoise-colored manganese oxides.

Finally a source from which the water actually gushes out.🙂
The Schwindequelle in the Heidedorf Schwindebeck is a very inspiring sight. It has been a nature reserve since 1936 and is the second largest spring in all of Lower Saxony. The well-accessible source is wonderful to watch as it constantly pushes new water from below out of the sandy ground, whirling up veritable fountains of sand. The reddish yellow discoloration is due to the iron content.
The spring water has a constant temperature of around 9 degrees Celsius and does not freeze over even in winter. This is particularly important for the local wildlife, which can thus find reliable access to water even in winter.
The sinkhole can be visited at any time, parking spaces are available. You can easily hike there or include it as an intermediate destination in a bike tour.

              Natural wonder Schwindequelle Lüneburg Heath
A natural wonder of the Lüneburg Heath Nature Park is the Schwindequelle.
With 60 liters per second, the spring is the second richest spring in Lower Saxony after the Rhume spring in the Harz Mountains.
At an easily accessible spring pot, you can see how the water pushes out of the sandy bottom from below, whirling up real sand fountains and depositing reddish iron oxides and turquoise manganese oxides.
The spring water has a constant temperature of around 9 degrees Celsius and never freezes over, even in winter. This is particularly important for the local animal world, which also has reliable access to water in winter.
The Schwindequelle has been a nature reserve since 1936.

              Already knew?
Natural sources are legally protected habitats. In the Lüneburg Heath there are mostly seepage springs, as can be seen a few meters north of this source pot. Seepage sources? The local ice age terminal moraines are very sandy. Rainwater is well absorbed by these soils and seeps back to the surface when it hits water-bearing layers.

                Nice spring with benches.

A unique sight to see the water pouring out of the earth, how the sand swirls and how the banks are reddish, from the mineral-containing water.

The Schwindequelle is a beautiful, colorful spring in brown, red and turquoise tones that can be visited at any time of the year. For us it is a real highlight, as you can see very well how the water gushes out of the ground in different places.
A hike in the area is worthwhile, but there is also a car park a few meters away for those who are comfortable.

At this point / I would like to quickly / say something about the source:
To quote the incomparable humorist Heinz Erhardt (1909-1979), who was known to a wide audience for his pun and "Noch'n Gedicht", with a short quatrain:
"There is certainly a lot of beautiful about it,
                                  on the element, the wet.
Because you can drink the water.
But you can - also leave it alone. "
                                  (H.Erhardt)
