Church of Saints Vito and Modesto

Church originally of the Ambrosian rite, whose foundation probably dates back to the late Roman Empire. It stood on a rise and had a single nave, with a wooden ceiling and five altars. It had a bell tower on the facade, but it was demolished by the archbishop of Milan San Carlo Borromeo, with the consequent new construction on the left side of the main altar. Two days before Christmas 1793 the facade of the church collapsed and with it part of the church. So a new building had to be done. The project of the facade was entrusted to one of the greatest architects of the Neclassical, Simone Cantoni. The works lasted until 1812. Other works on the facade date back to 1904, while in 1919 the dome above the lantern was built and the bell tower was raised, which today reaches 67.5 m in height.
The church that is presented to visitors today has a facade that diverges in some details from Cantoni's project, while the interior was profoundly renovated in the 1950s-60s.
