Dear Guest,
We are very pleased to welcome you to the Ratskeller in the historic town hall of Marienberg.
Before you indulge in the culinary delights of our house, stop for a moment and listen to the stories that the old walls tell to anyone who wants to hear them.
As early as 1524, with the construction of the first wooden town hall, the "Rats Trinkstube" was created. According to the city accounts, in 1537, with the start of construction of the new town hall, a new cellar was demolished, which was later joined by four more rooms. From the "Rats Keller" beer and wine were served to the duke, the electors, bailiffs, miners, miners' elders and other distinguished guests at the expense of the city treasury. A street sale from this tavern was also a considerable return for the city purse.
The drinking and taproom could even show an inventory of pewter and silver crockery. The people of Marienberg especially liked to celebrate weddings and other happy celebrations in the "Rats drinking room".
However, no more beer was allowed to be served and no more cards and dice games could take place when the tower clock had struck 9:00 p.m. A "drinking room order" ensured compliance with the law and the maintenance of good manners.
Finally, in 1870, the Ratskellerwirtschaft was set up and leased until it was completely redesigned in 1986.
In 2005, the wine bar was separated from the Ratskeller and converted into a tourist information office.
We wish you a pleasant stay and are always at your disposal.
