The Hochfilzen military training area is a military facility in the immediate vicinity of the border with the state of Salzburg on the North Tyrolean side near Hochfilzen. It is the oldest existing military training area in Austria.
In 1878 this military training area was taken over by the k.u.k. Army put into operation as an artillery firing range. Therefore also the hl. Barbara and a grenade in the coat of arms of the military training area. The mountainous terrain on the western foothills of the Leoganger Steinberge covers around 1,400 hectares. It belongs to the Republic of Austria
