The historic old town of Hollfeld is overlooked by the former St. Gangolf Church with its fortified tower as a symbol of the city of Hollfeld. The Gangolfsturm with the old tower house offers a beautiful all-round view of Hollfeld and the surrounding area.
Marienplatz in the Upper City has the early medieval character of a township.
The Kastanienallee, laid out in 1929, and the green spaces give Marienplatz a neat appearance. For centuries, the cattle and annual markets, which were of great economic importance for Hollfeld and the surrounding area, were held here. Even today there are regular markets on this square.
The jewels of Marienplatz are the renovated town houses and the town hall, which was built in its current form after the great fire of 1724. The three-storey gabled house shows the city arms and the arms of the Prince-Bishop of Würzburg and Bamberg. Immediately next to it is the Wittauerhaus, which shows rare herringbone-like ceilings, half-timbered walls, stencil paintings and other special features inside the building.
