Fromista is a small municipality in the province of Palencia in the steppe plateau of the meseta. Crossed by the Camino Francés in the stretch from Burgos to León (as demonstrated by the numerous hospitality establishments), Fromista is famous for the beautiful Romanesque abbey of San Martin, a perfectly preserved 11th century Romanesque building located in the center of the square of the same name. There are other beautiful churches in the village, of course, but this is definitely the most important. On sunny days it appears suffused with golden light to the traveler; it is not particularly imposing, but has two tall circular towers at the corners of the facade and a mighty octagonal drum with recessed lantern, in the rear, it is rich in architectural elements, embellished with capitals and corbels with plant, zoomorphic, anthropomorphic motifs, frames and gutters roof protrusions that look like lace.
Unfortunately, I was unable to visit the interior as the church was closed when I arrived. Visiting times are as follows: 9.30 - 14.00, 16.30 - 20.00
