He became legendary for his intelligence, sharp tongue, deadly reputation, and his role in the famous gunfight at the O.K. Corral in 1881, alongside Wyatt Earp. His rare combination of medical training and violent life, his friendship with Earp, and his early death from illness make him one of the most intriguing figures in American history. To this day, his myth lives on—even his exact grave in Glenwood Springs remains a mystery.
