The villa was built in 1891 on the 10,000 square meter site for the publisher Müller-Grote. At that time it was called "Haus Erlenkamp". Owner of the Grotesch publishing house and publisher of Theodor Fontane's works. The villa served as his summer residence and was an early meeting point for important personalities. The family, like many others, had to leave their villa in the summer of 1945, since the entire area was cleared for the Soviet occupation. From July 15, 1945, Truman lived in the villa for 17 days with Secretary of State James F. Byrnes and Defense Adviser William D. Leahy. In the years that followed, the building had various uses: in the 1950s, the "Institute for Law" of the Academy for State and Law, from 1961 it was a polytechnic high school for 13 years, from 1974 it was the furniture warehouse of the city of Potsdam.
