The Binnenpoort or Lanxmeerpoort is the only city gate still standing in the fortified city of Culemborg in the Dutch province of Gelderland. The canals and remnants of the city wall in the center of Culemborg date back to the fourteenth century. Just like the monumental Binnenpoort, the last city gate. The slots are still visible through which a portcullis can be lowered. The gate has a height of 37.3 meters.

The original 'Lanxmeerpoort' from 1318 is part of the wall of the oldest part of the city around the large market square. The walls offered protection against itinerant gangs and the violence of numerous wars that were fought in this border area between Utrecht, Holland, Guelders and Brabant.

One could only enter or leave the city through the seven city gates. At 21.55 o'clock (still) the porridge clock rings. A warning about closing the gates at 10pm. After a last bowl of porridge, it's time to go to bed.

This beautiful Binnenpoort or Lanxmeerpoort dates from the 14th century. After the city was granted city rights in 1318, the old city centre was immediately walled. Wall towers and city gates were built. This is the only remaining city gate of the seven city gates that Culemborg once had. The gate has four floors, which are connected by a narrow spiral staircase. The Binnenpoort was used as a prison for a long time.
