At the end of the 19th century, the city authorities wanted to give Charleroi the appearance of a large city, with its parks, alleys, boulevards and monuments.
Schools, a stock exchange and a covered passageway leading to it were built. It is therefore natural that this gallery was baptized Passage de la Bourse.
It is one of the few, perhaps the only gallery drawing a curve. In neoclassical style, it was built in 1890 on the site of a Capuchin convent, following the Parisian fashion for large covered passages.
