The bridge gate (also bridge gate, bridge tower, address Eichgasse 12, formerly house number 363) is part of the city fortifications of Dettelbach. Of the former five city gates, only the bridge gate and the butterfly gate have survived.
The bridge gate was built in the north of Dettelbach's old town near the creek of the same name. The gate got its name because it connected the city with the Brück located in the hinterland, which belonged to the Dettelbach district. It also formed the connection to Prosselsheim, the original official residence for the Dettelbach subjects. All gates fulfilled important defensive tasks. The gate closers employed by the community had to monitor traffic as well as punctually unlocking and locking the gates at sunrise and sunset.
