The almost 120 ton heavy “lava bomb” from Strohn is a geological specialty. With its diameter of almost five meters, it is an impressive, unique testimony to earlier volcanic activity in the Eifel. During a blast in the Wartgesberg quarry in 1969, it detached itself from the quarry wall from 15 meters high. In the winter of 1980/81, citizens of Strohn pulled them on an iron plate with a bulldozer over the frozen blanket of snow to their current location.
