Ballad "BARBAROSSA":
The old Barbarossa,
the Emperor Frederick,
is under a spell in the underground castle.
He never died,
he still lives there;
he has sat down to sleep, hidden in the castle.
He has taken down the glory of the kingdom,
and will one day return with it,
in his time.
The chair on which the Emperor sits is made of ivory;
the table on which he rests his head is made of marble.
His beard is not made of flax,
it is made of embers,
has grown through the table on which his chin rests.
He nods as if in a dream,
his eyes wink half-open;
and after a long space he waves to a boy.
He says to the boy in his sleep:
go outside the castle, oh dwarf,
and see if the ravens are still flying around the mountain. And if the old ravens
still fly forever,
I must also sleep
enchanted for a hundred years."
