          A short hike up a mountain near Sligo with fantastic views. The hike is easy. In some places a bit steep, but well feasible. Upstairs you will be rewarded with a wonderful view of the sea or the interior. At the top is the burial mound of Queen Maeve. Supposedly she was buried standing.

            The cairn is from over 3 thousand years BC. Climbing the cairn like in the photos is helping destroy the very site you spent time visiting. Do you want human-proof fences and huge signs? Bring a rock. Taking a rock is dumb. Leave no trace - respect the place.

              Knocknarea is an impressive mountain in Ireland that is a popular destination for hikers. With a height of over 300 meters, it offers a great view of the surrounding landscape. At the top is an ancient cairn believed to be the burial place of Queen Medb of Connacht.

              Walkers can climb the Knocknarea on a well-marked path that starts from a car park at the foot of the mountain. The path is steep and slippery in parts, but the effort is well worth it for the panoramic views of Sligo Bay and County Sligo's Green Hills. There is also a flatter circular route around the mountain that also offers a leisurely stroll through the countryside.

              The Knocknarea is a place where history and nature go hand in hand. Visitors should bring comfortable walking shoes and enough water to fully enjoy the mountain.
