The ferry port was built between 1982 and 1986 and opened on October 2, 1986. It was put into operation primarily for the Mukran-Klaipeda ferry connection. There are also ferry lines to Sweden and Denmark. The Nord Stream 2 pipeline also led to Mukran. More on the history;
