Although the Baltic Sea is still a few hundred meters away, you get a beach feeling when you enter the area.

Because here, south of Altwarp in the area of the former Haff reservoir, an inland dune massif was formed, which consists of irregularly arranged dune ridges. These dunes were created thanks to westerly and northwesterly winds after the last ice age.

The nature reserve Altwarper Binnendünen, Neuwarper See and Riether Werder has a size of 1,460 hectares. It was shaped by the last glaciation and the subsequent centuries-long defrosting period. The dunes open up beautiful views up to the Polish side to Neuwarp (Nowe Warpno).

The dune areas at Altwarp cover silver grass, sheep fescue, blue-green schiller grass, mountain hairline and Carthusian carnation. The endangered kerb ant Formica foreli lives on the dunes.

The Altwarper Binnendünen, Neuwarper See and Riether Werder nature reserve is characterized by the last ice age and the centuries-long thawing period that followed. From the dunes you have beautiful views all the way to Nowe Warpno on the Polish side.
Numerous juniper trees and bushes grow here. A pristine valley with a special flair.
